Skaill Achieves 4 Star Status - 27/08/2009

The staff at Skaill House were celebrating this week after being upgraded to a 4 star visitor attraction on the Visit Scotland Quality Assurance Scheme.

The 4 star accolade distinguishes the visitor attraction as having ‘Excellent’ status according to the scheme and the award has been granted in recognition of the hard work and enthusiasm put in by the staff working at Skaill House.
Skaill House is a privately run visitor attraction though entry in through a joint ticket arrangement with Skara Brae. The house is run by a small and tightly knit team of staff including guides, a cleaner and a handyman. Mary Connolly (Manager) commented that “ it was due to the hard work of the staff that Skaill House achieved this the 4 star grading and I wish to thank them all. Without them we wouldn’t have achieved it”.
In particular the attraction was praised by the Visit Scotland inspector for the ‘friendly and welcoming staff’ and the ‘attractive and well maintained grounds and gardens’. Also noted by the inspector were the additional services offered to visitors including the popular ‘Hunt the Viking’ game for families and the extensive range of translated information available for international visitors (including Polish and Czech translations!)
Malcolm Macrae (Owner of Skaill House) commented  “I am absolutely delighted that we have achieved a 4 star grading. This is a reflection of all the hard work the dedicated staff at Skaill House have put in over the years.”
